Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Political Career: Full of U-turns








Recently people of Bihar witnessed a body blow to the Opposition unity in Bihar, Nitish Kumar resigned as Bihar CM yesterday on July 26, 2017. He alleged "irreconcilable differences" with his coalition party RJD on the issue of corruption charges against his DY CM Tejashwi Yadav.  The BJP suddenly moved in, praising Mr. Kumar’s action, and extended their support to a government headed by him.


On July 27, 2017,Mr. Kumar took the oath as the CM of Bihar, this time, however, with the support of the BJP.


His career has been full of several U-Turns... Have a look at his political careers:

Coalition with BJP in 1996

When Lalu defeated him in 1995, Samta Party aligned with BJP in 1996. Lalu becomes hardcore enemy. Though Samata merged into JD(U), its alliance with BJP still remained.

With the help of BJP he became state’s Cheif Minister for the 1st time in 2000 (for 7 days). After this, he was appointed as railway minister in Atal's government; elected as Cheif Minister for 2nd time with BJP’s support in 2005. (In office: 24.11.2005-25.11-2010); in 2010, JDU in alliance with BJP got over three-fourth majority in Bihar polls and Nitish took oath of CM for third time (26.11.10).

Protesting elevation of Modi who was appointed campaign committee chairman, he cut alliance     with BJP in June 2013. Finally quit NDA when it became clear that Modi would be NDA’s PM choice. Won a trust vote in house with Congress support.

Taking moral responsibility of JDU’s defeat in 2014 general elections, Nitish resigned as CM. Chose 'mahadalit' Jitan Ram Manjhi as successor.

Later differences with Manjhi cropped up. Nitish threw him out to become chief minister again (22.02.2015-19.11.2015).

Joined arch enemy and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, formed Mahagathbandhan with him and Congress, and won state elections to become CM for the 5th time.
